Situational leadership is about adapting to the followers

Leadership Style According to Blanchard and Phil (15) situational leadership involves making use of a leadership style that is appropriate for the followers in a team or one that is right for the people being led. My perspective is that one kind of leadership style is not enough. The style of leadership should be changed in line with the level of development of the followers in order for it to be effective. The leadership style to be employed is influenced by the maturity levels shown by team members. To begin with, the style of directing is the right one to be used by leaders who are dealing with people with a low maturity (Hersey, 48). This is because, such individuals whose maturity is low tend to lack the necessary skills, confidence and even the knowledge to carry out the tasks they have been assigned. As such, directing will involve supervising and giving instructions to such individuals in order for them to perform their functions in a manner that is satisfactory. The next level is the medium level of maturity where personnel have limited skills. Leaders at this level make use of the style of coaching in order to achieve their aims (Lussier, 343). Usually those at the middle level maturity possess certain competencies but they do not have any commitment thus leaders provide these individuals and sell their vision to the team members in a bid to get them on board. The third level is the one where individuals possess a medium level of maturity but with a higher level of skills even though they still lack the much needed confidence. A participative style of leadership is suitable in this case as it entails offering support and encouragement to this group but with very few directions. An example in this case will be when a leader sensitizes and teaches the followers on the goals that should be achieved and leaves them to do the rest of the tasks. Finally, individuals who have a high level of maturity should be governed using the style of leadership of directing. A leader will provide this group with more objectives and place a few limitations on boundaries. An example is when a leader delegates certain roles to his followers. This is so because individuals in this group possess high competencies, a high sense of commitment and are more empowered (Cassidy Robert, 33)s. If leaders apply the various types of leadership style depending on the level of development, which their followers have, then they are more likely to accomplish their tasks as expected and achieve their set objectives. Furthermore, they will be able to lead effectively even as they focus on ensuring that their followers move to the high level of maturity. References Blanchard, Kenneth H, and Phil Hodges. The World Trade Organization ( Wto ) - 1234 Words

In international economy, trade agreement was made to gain fairness between the involved countries. Thus, the World Trade Organization (WTO) is established to protect these agreements and serves consequences for those who violate the agreement. Dumping is one of the examples of violation of the agreements. WTO defined dumping as imported goods in the market of the importing country with price less than its normal value (TrewinBosworth 1999, p.134). From one perspective, to protect local producers from dumping, the government imposes anti-dumping measures on imported goods. From another perspective, the anti-dumping measures will cause less incentive for local producers to produce efficiently; thus, it is important to avoid using†¦show more content†¦Exporters restricting their products to enter the market would decrease the total supply of the product in the market and later causes shortage in the market due to the inability of the local producers to meet the demand from con sumers. Hence, the market can be considered as imperfect market due to the existence of inefficiency in the market. It is important to note that if the local producers were able to meet with the demand, they would be able to gain profit maximization and achieve economies of scale. It is also stated in Dhar and Conway’s study (1994) that when dumping-sector profits increases, other sector profits such as wages would also increase, thus implicating that dumping-sector profits have relations to other sector profits. Imposing anti-dumping measure would result the opposite. Knowing that the anti-dumping measure would increase the price of the imported goods, the exporting country would cut off their cost of production by cutting off their labors, thus increasing the unemployment rate of the exporting country. Trewin and Bosworth (1999, p.136) gave an example of a case, which it took in 1999, Australian manufacturer of A4 copy paper had claimed that Indonesia should be treated as an unsuitable market for assessment of ‘normal values’ because at that time, Indonesia was facing a major devaluation

hamlet and lear Essay Example For Students

hamlet and lear Essay Hamlet and Lear EssayShakespeare has many overlapping themes that seem to correlate throughout his different works of literature. However, there are many themes that conflict as well. King Lear and Hamlet are two works of literature that can be both compared and contrasted. Hamlet and Lear seem to be complete opposites on the surface. Hamlet is a young prince who is lost in a world of confusion and deception. His father is brutally murdered by his uncle and he then must face him as his new father-in-law when he marries his mother. Lear is an elderly man who is past his prime and is trying to raise his daughters in a world of vanity and live with the Renaissances preoccupation with appearances. As conflicting as these two characters seem they also have to deal with many of the same pressures and they surprisingly handle certain situations similarly. One such circumstance is that they are both forced the verge of madness. But this isnt the only thing that is coincidental between the two characters situation. They both have methods to their madness. Hamlet goes through many trials and tribulations throughout this play. He must live though his fathers untimely death, his uncles hasty marry to his mother, Ophelias refusal to see him or except his love letters, and the conspiracies that he sees planned against him. This alone is enough for any reader to understand why he has gone mad and to sympathize with. But Hamlet is stronger than he lets on to anybody. He is only pretending to be as mad as he is so that people will not become suspicious when he snoops around the house and acts irrationally toward his mother and step-father. His madness becomes the obsession of the house and King Claudius actually brings his old friends, Rosencranz and Guildenstern, to the house to find out what is causing him to loose his sanity. He asks them, Something have you heard/of Hamlets transformation? Everybody ends up with his or her own personal explanation to why Hamlet has gone mad. Queen Gertrude feels that it is simply his fathers death and her marriage that has caused him to cross the line between sanity and insanity. Polonius believes that it was his refusal to let Hamlet see his daughter, Ophelia, that has made him mad. Ophelia can not find a reason for his madness, and feels it is the pressure of society and his new family that has changed him so dramatically. Whatever the reason, most of Hamlets friends and family were set on the fact that Hamlet was no longer in his right mind. However, Hamlet used this tactic of pretending to be out of his wits to fool his enemies into underestimating his plans of revenge until the moment of attack, and then, of course, it would be too late. King Lear also was accused of going mad. He divided his kingdom into three parts so that each one of his daughters could share in his wealth. He had each daughter battle against each other to see who could flatter him the most. Goneril and Reagan both fought ruthlessly to attain the better division of land. When his youngest daughter (who was also his favorite) told him that she loved him like a daughter should love a father and that one day she would have a husband that she would also love, he became frenetic. He disowned her from the family, leaving the property to his other two daughters. Lear is shunned by his two daughters later on in the play, and is kicked out onto the streets where he becomes delirious. Although this display of daft behavior is more genuine than Hamlets, I believe that Lear ranted and raved because he was used to getting attention. Social status was very crucial in the renaissance era. Many people would judge a person by how many followers and possessions the y held. Now that Lear was on his own and not surrounded by his followers he felt that he was worth nothing if he had nothing. For the first time in his life, he had to face his true self worth. I think this frightened

paulsociologyessay Essays - Articles, Academic Disciplines

In today's world, it is easy to spot people who blame themselves for the problems in which they are facing. For example, a single parent may blame him or herself for being able to be in the position to support the child due to a number of different circumstances. Another example can be couples who have just married already having daily arguments which leads to an early divorce, or women who may be facing difficulty adjusting to being a stay at home mom and losing her identity. These issues may seem personal, but these are problems are all related to society. This is known as sociological imagination. Sociological imaginations is the idea that people will look at their own personal troubles and relate them to the problems of a society. They try to connect their own problems to the problems in society. Their personal problems are closley related to the problems of society and with the understanding of sociological imagination I begant to draw parallets between my own problems and the p roblems of our society. I saw how the daily choices I made, the classes I decided to attend or not attend, the way my parents raised me, the group of people I hang around with, the things I like to talk about all are affected by the public issues and what society tends to make us believe is right or wrong. There are many areas of my life that I feel are greatly affected by various sociological theories such as sexuality, family and culture, ethnicity and race, and social class.Even though America is the "boiling pot" country, there are still problems with race and culture. I grew up in an African-American household, but there are traces of Caucasion and Native American in my family tree. My family helped shapw my views and behaviors culturally. My grandfather was born in the south and he would tell me stories about discrimination when he was growing up. While he angrily expressed his opinions about Caucasian people, since he was someone I viewed as a hero, I slowly started to believ e that those people were the exact same in today's world. I believe that I was experiencing anticipatory socialization, I was expressing and taking on the norms and ideals and behaviors of a role in which one aspires but does not yet occupy. I viewed my acitoons as that of rejecting self-socializaton and making my family an aspect of primary socialization. Due to what my grandfather shared with me, I tried to avoid Caucasisian people. I started to believe that their culture was limiting the amount of opportunities and options that I had. Because of my familiar experiences, I started to believe that I had no control over my own beliefs on culture and society. Due to the anticipatory socilaiztion with my grandfather, I still have problems developing my own beliefs, but as I have gotten older, I am starting to shake away from that. Society will still always play a important role in the choices I make. Social influences can and will be uncontrollable. Sometimes people even use social in fluences to form their own beliefs. This experience helped me torealize that even though people do not think it does, society plays an important role in developing culture and family views and values (Tony). My racial identity became clear as I was considered a part of the minority in my class full of Caucasian people. I was used to being surrounded by black people, so I was surprised at the enormous variety of races that existed. Even though I was one of the only black people in the school, I realized that it was more to the world than a person's own race. At first I felt out of place in the predominately all while classes, but I learned to adapt. I did encounted people of my own race and I felt some comfort in talking with them. Soon, I started to feel that I was part of a distinct ethnic group and I would feel more accepted when I was with people of other ehtnic groups. Accoridng to Brym and Lie, ethnic groups is composed of people who perceived cultureal markers are deemed

The use of African terms such as chi Indicates a more strong sense of tradition. Through the two texts, Red and Awoken both show examples of respect. Red does not care about the amount of prison work he does and he helps other peoples wants and needs. Awoken respects his villages beliefs, religion, customs and heritage. When the missionary wanted him to convert to Christianity he refused and rebelled. In life, people often follow the rules, regulations and traditions of their local community because that Is what they know within their knowledge. In the film, The Shawano Redemption, Red is a hard worker and respects the prison guards. He will obey anything they say and do anything they say. He gives advice to others and silently keeps out of trouble. The other value is hope. In The Shawano Redemption, Andy believes that hope gives a sense of freedom. This is because he knows he is innocent. As he gets used to the prison, Andy thinks he is so free that puts Mozart on the PA system. This is hope gone too far. Later on, Andy put in enough effort and determination to plan a successful escape. In Things Fall Apart, Awoken gains hope when things start to get out of hand. He also hopes to generate wealth from the yams. However, he is not capable of change because he has always been the same person. When Awoken is protesting against the new religion, no one was on his side so his only choice was to kill himself by hanging. The values I have researched has affected my personal values and attitudes by releasing the harshness in a prison or being forced to be taught a religion can be negated with the right determination by believing in your values.
